Extremity Adjusting: Extremity adjusting occurs when chiropractors adjust the joints of the body that are outside of the spinal joints. These joints include the ribs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Similar to subluxations of the spine, extremities can also suffer from misalignment. These misalignments can cause pain and limit a patient’s range of motion.
Possible symptoms of extremity issues that can be helped by chiropractic adjustments include:
- Chronic and acute pain in the extremity joints
- Weakness in the extremity joints
- Stiffness or immobility in the extremity joints
- Numbness or tingling in the limbs
- Catching or locking of the extremity joints
The goal of adjusting extremities is to restore the original and proper alignment of the joint. This allows it to have normal and proper function. Dr. Barnum at A & A Chiropractic has additional elective training in extremities. In fact, extremity adjusting was one of his major emphases during her education.

Today was my 5th day doing the treatment. From the first day that I came to see Dr. Sharon Barnum up to today, I feel so much better. Like I told her, my pain went down by 70-80%. I drive about 1.5hrs approximately and my muscles became so intense that pain meds don’t work anymore. I was in so much pain that I had to call out so often. And on March 26, I could not help it anymore. I needed some help and Dr. Barnum helped me so much to heal my neck, shoulder and back pain. Despite that she is out of network for me, I keep going because she really helps me.

I lived with severe shoulder pain for two years that significantly limited my mobility. 10/10 recommend. I’m the “trouble” patient with issues in multiple areas of my back due to a car accident and the level of treatment I receive from the chiropractor is unmatched from other chiropractors I’ve seen in the past.
