Shoulder pain is treated without surgery or medication at our facility using gentle chiropractic adjustments combined with other non-invasive modalities including electric muscle stimulation
The shoulder joint can shift out of alignment causing the muscles and ligaments to pull differently. This leads to muscle spasms, inflammation and pain that may not go away on its own. Dr. Sharon Barnum will provide gentle adjustments to the shoulder to distract the joint or shift it forward or backward, depending on symptoms. She will also adjust the spine to bring balance to the body and improve posture. By having the neck and upper back adjusted, it will also help relieve shoulder discomfort.
Dr. Barnum also provides other treatments that effectively help reduce shoulder pain. All of our therapies work with the muscles and tissues to reduce inflammation and allow the body to stay aligned. These treatments will also help release stubborn knots from tight or damaged muscles and tissues.
These treatments include:
- Electric Muscle Stimulation
- Ultrasound Therapy
- Moist Heat
- Myofascial Therapy
- Rehabilitation Exercises
- Isometric Stretching
Chiropractic care can help with knee pain
Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis in the knee, is caused by the gradual degradation of the cartilage in the joint. A deformity can lead to arthritis in the knee, but more often, obesity or excess weight, or repetitive stress injuries from sports are the culprits. Symptoms include pain, swelling, stiffness or locking joints.
The knee is a joint that relies heavily on ligaments and muscles for stability. When pain is perceived as coming from the knee, all the anatomical components need to be examined. In addition to the knee joint, the low back, pelvis, hip, ankle and foot need to be evaluated due to the direct influence they have on the knee, and vice versa.
How we treat patients with knee pain
Each patient that visits our facility is unique, therefore the course of treatment recommended by Dr. Barnum will vary from patient to patient. Most commonly, Dr. Barnum will utilize specific chiropractic manipulation techniques to areas of restricted movement in the knee and surrounding joints. These manipulations can increase movement, improve function and reduce pain.
Inflammation is also reduced with ice and a customized rehabilitation and exercise program will be provided by Dr. Barnum. This individualized program will include rehabilitative exercises to complete at our facility, as well as the patient’s place of residence.
